What are Chapters?
Chapters are local or regional groups affiliated with the Michigan Association for Gifted Children (Chapters document). Chapters can be associated with a school building, a school district, a city, or a larger geographic area. The Chapter works to determine the needs of its members; the Michigan Association for Gifted Children helps the Chapter meet those needs – be they in advocacy, information, or events. Chapters are also sometimes called “Affiliates.”
How do we form a Chapter?
Begin by contacting your Regional Liaisons (see your liaison list) or the Chapters Officer ([email protected]) regarding your thoughts or plans for forming a Chapter. You will also want to review the procedures for affiliation (pdf below) and the information from the Chapter Handbook (download Chapter Handbook.pdf – Chapters were formerly called “Affiliates” and this PDF uses that terminology throughout.). This Handbook will provide many suggestions for you as a group, including issues such as bylaws, membership, and activities. Chapter leaders may also download our “What Chapter Leaders should Know” brochure.
Once you’ve made the decision to organize formally, complete the required three forms online or send by mail with any required fees to the Michigan Association for Gifted Children at the address listed below. Please download Procedures for New Chapters and Chapter Renewal (.pdf 158k) for additional details.
Each June, current chapters need to renew their affiliation with the Michigan Association for Gifted Children as part of our agreement with the federal government. These three forms (listed above) are required for us to have in hand to complete the MAGC report to the IRS. Please download Procedures for Affiliation and Renewal (.pdf 158k) for additional details. You may also renew online (use the links above).
